For me, living life had become a daily retreat from a perceived army of crippling anxieties. Although inpatient treatment gave me many of the tools to begin a more functional relationship with the real world, I lacked any sort of relevant experience at the time I graduated. My aftercare only took a few hours, three days a week; outside of that I suddenly had a lot of time to myself and a lot of personal reprogramming to undertake. This is where Serenity Homes entered the picture. The atmosphere of my Serenity Homes residence has often been a microcosm of the fellowship I experience in the broader recovery community. In this way, my daily living environment and the setting for most of my personal time is one characterized by a sense of belonging to a group of like-minded individuals. By sharing common goals we hold each other accountable, provide moral support when needed, and keep each other sane. This house is not just a safe place to lay my head but a home I am proud of and look forward to returning to each day. As a transitional piece in the larger tapestry of my recovery, Serenity Homes has been an invaluable resource. At this point I cannot imagine attempting to integrate recovery into my life without clean and sober housing and Serenity homes represents a full realization of what such an environment can provide. |
